Millions of people, including nearly 1 million Americans and more than 10,000 Israelis, have died during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Jewish community has suffered devastating losses, from rabbis to teachers to Holocaust survivors.

This JTA series, named after a phrase from El Maleh Rachamim, a Jewish prayer for the dead, is dedicated to remembering those we’ve lost due to the pandemic. While traditional Jewish mourning practices may be largely impossible to observe during the coronavirus pandemic, we can still come together here to mourn those we’ve lost.

If you’ve lost someone you loved, whether it is a family member, a friend or a community member, we at JTA want to commemorate them.
